Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.

Original articles

Section Policy: Original Articles

The Original Articles section is dedicated to unpublished works that provide significant contributions to forensic sciences, criminalistics, and related disciplines. General Guidelines

  • Articles must be unpublished, not under simultaneous review in other journals, and comply with the specified format and structure.
  • The title must be provided in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, with a maximum of 18 words.
  • Authors must include an abstract in a single paragraph of up to 250 words, following the structure: Introduction, Methodology, Results, and Discussion.
  • The manuscript must include at least 30 scientific references in APA format (latest edition).

Review Process

All submitted works will undergo a double-blind peer review process to ensure objectivity and scientific rigor. This process may take between 4 and 8 weeks. Authors will be notified of the status of their manuscript and, if necessary, must make the requested changes.

In addition to the manuscript of your article, it is a mandatory requirement to submit the Publication Authorization and Contribution Declaration document. This document formalizes the submission of the work to the Con-Ciencia Forense Journal, ensuring the originality of the manuscript, the transfer of economic rights, the absence of conflicts of interest, and compliance with ethical research principles. It also includes the declaration of the use of artificial intelligence tools and the identification of each author's contribution according to the CRediT taxonomy.

The submission of this document is mandatory and must be duly signed by all authors of the article.

Review Articles

These manuscripts should provide a novel and relevant perspective, adhering to the editorial standards set by the journal.   • The title must be presented in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, with a maximum of 18 words.

  • It is mandatory to ensure the protection of privacy rights for the individuals involved, including anonymizing sensitive data.
  • The title should be written in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, with a maximum of 18 words.
  • A summary must be included in a single paragraph of up to 250 words, structured as: Introduction, Methodology, Case Description, Results, and Conclusions.
  • Manuscripts must include at least 15 academic references in APA format (latest edition).

General Guidelines

  • Originality: The reports must be original and not under review in other publications.
  • Title: The title must be presented in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, with a maximum of 18 words.
  • Abstract: The abstract should be a single paragraph not exceeding 250 words, clearly describing the objective, methodology used, main results, and conclusions.
  • Citations and References: At least 8 relevant bibliographic references must be cited, following the APA format (latest edition).
  • Clarity and Precision: The report must be clear, precise, and detailed, explaining the expert process, the technical procedures used, the results obtained, and the conclusions drawn.
  • Original Content: Reports must be original and not reproduce previous analyses identically without new interpretation or contribution.
